FORM Arcosanti content winner Kala Stone: A skeptic no more

You know those giveaways on Instagram where all you have to do is follow a page and tag a friend in the comments to win something really amazing?

You probably think to yourself: This is wayyyy too easy and awesome to be legit. Nobody ever wins this stuff. Right?

But then you figure, what the hell. And so you do it.

That’s pretty much what crossed Kala Stone’s mind when she spotted Lyte’s contest to win two passes to FORM Arcosanti, one of our platform’s festival partners. But then Kala tagged her wife, Danielle, deciding to go for it.

“I was like, ‘no way is this real,’” the 25-year-old from Phoenix says. “I thought for sure nobody would really score two passes to an awesome festival, because those contests just don’t seem real.”

Kala is now a believer. She won our Instagram giveaway and took Danielle to FORM. The May 11-12 fest featuring Florence + The Machine, Skrillex, Tim Hecker, Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals was a weekend the couple will never forget. Plus, it was free.

“FORM was smaller than many festivals, and very heart-to-heart,” Kala says. “There were maybe 2,000 people there, and you saw prominent activists talking about things nobody is comfortable talking about. We loved the more intimate setting and they took really good care of us.”

FORM Arocsanti is a festival that is as unique as the Arizona eco-city it’s held in every year. As organizers note on FORM’s website:

Kala had studied Arcosanti’s architecture in college; now she is a field engineer for Hensel Phelps Construction. Festivals are big for her. It’s Kala’s thing, much in the way some people are gamers and others go snowboarding or collect things.

“I am festival-goer,” Kala says. “It’s just what I love to do.”

How does Lyte fit into Kala’s fan experience? She first discovered the platform while looking to sell her tickets to the California Roots Festival May 24–26. Kala had been excited to go, but her plans changed as the busy Memorial Day weekend began to approach.
