In episode 21 from Series 7 of Spotlight On, host and Lyte Commercial Director Lawrence Peryer welcomes Australian saxophonist and composer Jeremy Rose to the podcast.

Described as one of Australia’s most foremost contemporary jazz talents, the multi-award winning musician has had an impactful career that has spanned the globe as well as numerous projects and orchestras that he has either founded or led.

Born in Sydney, Australia on August 21st, 1984, saxophonist Jeremy Rose’s familiarity with jazz music came from an early age via his parent’s extensive record collection, being particularly inspired by the likes of Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley. Taking up saxophone at the age of just 11, Rose’s determination to be a bandleader saw him study at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in his hometown, going on to pursue workshops and residencies with mentors in Norway, Canada, Greece, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and England.

After founding and releasing six albums with The Vampires since 2005, Rose has also founded The Strides, Visions of Nar, Vazesh, Compass Quartet, Project Infinity and the Jeremy Rose Quartet which has been his mainstay as a creative outlet. Alongside lending his expertise to Sydney Conservatorium of Music by teaching saxophone and improvisation, he has also composed and regularly performed with Earshift Orchestra.

Using his influence and reach, Rose started his Sydney-based label Earshift Music in 2009, providing a platform to promote emerging jazz music and musicians in Australia and the nearby regions.

Throughout this episode of the podcast, Rose discusses the origins of his latest composition, Disruption! The Voice of Drums, as well as his prolific output and living as an artist in Australia.
