In the brand new episode from Series 7 of Spotlight On, podcast host and Lyte Chief Commercial Officer Lawrence Peryer speaks to the drummer from one of the most impactful groups in the history of rock music: Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason.
As a founding member and key component of Pink Floyd’s success, Mason contributed to landmark albums such as 1973’s Dark Side Of The Moon and 1979’s The Wall, co-writing compositions such as ‘Time’, ‘One of These Days’, and the epic ‘Echoes’. He is the only member to feature on every Pink Floyd album, and the only constant member since the group’s formation in 1965.
Fast forward to the present and Mason is taking his new band, Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets, on the road to perform the music from Pink Floyd’s early years. Taking the name from Pink Floyd’s 1968 album A Saucerful of Secrets, the band - which includes former Spandau Ballet guitarist Gary Kemp, former member of the Blockheads Lee Harris, as well as celebrated session bassist and former Floyd collaborator Guy Pratt - was formed in 2018 by Mason to expose more fans of Pink Floyd to their experimental beginnings. After a two-year delay, the ‘Echoes Tour’ is now finally underway.
Throughout the episode, Mason discusses his reasons for revisiting Pink Floyd’s earlier work, the iconic band’s enduring legacy, and differentiating his new project from tribute acts making a career from recreating their songs.
