Lyte presents “Womxn at Lyte,” a series of conversations highlighting the voices of our womxn.
Q: AS A CHILD, WHAT DID YOU THINK YOU WANTED TO BE, HOW DO YOU THINK YOU CAME TO THAT DECISION?
Meghan McBreen: Mine's kind of a joke response, but I wanted to be a pop star. I loved music as a child, so it did end up tying into what I do today, but pop star was always my chosen profession.
Q: WHAT WOULD YOUR YOUNGER SELF BE MOST SURPRISED ABOUT HOW YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE TODAY?
Meghan McBreen: When I was 15, I started saying that my dream was always to work in music festivals in some capacity, so my younger self would be thrilled about how things have worked out. She would also be shocked that I live in California now because I was born and raised on the East Coast.
Q: WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE HARDEST PART OF WHAT YOU DO FOR A LIVING?
Meghan McBreen: I think, simultaneously, one of the hardest and also one of the best things about the music industry is just that it never stops and everything is so fast-paced. It's a whirlwind sometimes, but it also really attracts the most passionate and hard-working people. It’s definitely an honor to be a part of the music industry and learn from it each day.
Q: WHAT LESSON TOOK YOU THE LONGEST TO UNLEARN?
Meghan McBreen: Don't let perfect get in the way of progress.
Q: WHAT HAVE YOU ACCOMPLISHED RECENTLY THAT WOULD HAVE SHOCKED YOU A YEAR AGO.
Meghan McBreen: I graduated college during COVID in 2020, so my world looked very different a year ago! In the past year, I moved to LA and started working here at Lyte. Both of those were actually long-term goals of mine and accomplishments that felt super out of reach at the beginning of 2021. It's been incredible to see that actually happen.
Q: WHAT ARE YOU MORE AFRAID OF FAILURE OR SUCCESS AND WHY?
Meghan McBreen: I'm more afraid of failure, mostly because I’m really hard on myself. I tend to measure success in the large accomplishments but have been working on realizing that it's just as important to celebrate the small wins that move us towards the big ones. I try to define success as being able to accomplish those larger goals I set, even if it takes time and smaller wins to get there - just having that goal in place.
Q: WHAT'S NON-NEGOTIABLE IN YOUR LIFE?
Meghan McBreen: I definitely want to be able to see my family a few times a year. I have family in Rhode Island and Nashville, so I prioritize those visits. It’s also important to see live music every once in a while! We all get busy and have a hard time picking our heads up to see the success of what we're accomplishing. I love being able to go to shows and festivals and see the impact we're making in live events. I'm going to Big Ears Festival this weekend, one of our partnered events, and I'm stoked about that one. It’s a special experience to actually be on the ground and see everything.
Q: WHAT CAN WOMXN CREATE TOGETHER?
Meghan McBreen: Womxn can uplift each other and create supportive spaces to learn and grow. I've been really, really lucky, especially here at Lyte - we just have a lot of amazing womxn on the team. I have a lot of strong womxn in my life in general, and I’ve always found that there's just a unique support system that womxn have together.
Q: WHAT'S THE MOST EXCITING IMPROVEMENT FOR womxn IN THE INDUSTRY OR JUST IN GENERAL?
Meghan McBreen: Seeing the increase of womxn in positions of leadership and power within live entertainment and music has been inspiring for me to watch. At Lyte, we have so many womxn here, which is incredible. I find on a day to day, I'm mostly working alongside womxn. It’s an honor to learn from and work with our phenomenal female leaders each day.
Q: WHAT TITLE WOULD YOU GIVE THIS CHAPTER IN YOUR LIFE?
Meghan McBreen: I think the most general way to put it would just be, “it's all happening!” Things have been busy lately, and super fulfilling in so many ways.
Q: WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT WHAT YOU DO AT LYTE?
Meghan McBreen: As a part of the Client Services team, I love working closely with our event partners to provide their fans with safe and reliable solutions if they missed out on tickets before sell-out or can no longer attend. It’s powerful to be a part of finding the best solution for both the fans and the event.
